Over the past few years we had noticed that fewer people were attending the Chijgamvasi UK AGMs. This year we made an extra special effort to encourage people to attend. We hand delivered as many invitations as we could and telephoned the people whose invitations were sent through the post. More games and entertainment was organised and an appropriate location was chosen.
The youth took a very active part in organising this years AGM. They got together on several occasions to discuss various things such as the venue, food, entertainment, games and agenda that took place on the day. Many interesting ideas were suggested and turned out to be very successful on the day.
Chijgam also launched it’s own website – www.chijgam.com, which would reach the Chijgamvasi across the globe. A presentation was shown on a large screen showing the whole web site, this was delivered in English and Gujarati.
A new committee was announced as Bupendrabhai K Patel stepped down as he was emigrating to Goa, India and there were more youths involved and encouraged with the UK Chijgamvasi.
It was also decided that our sisters of Chijgam should be appreciated in some way as they have always made an effort to attend the AGM, wherever it was located. Therefore each sister of Chijgam received a pair of gold earrings as a gift and honour of attending Chijgam AGM from Chijgamvasi UK.
The guest of honours for the day was Shree Babubhai V Patel (Nani Kakrad) and his wife Madhuben B Patel (Dhuna Falia) who came from India and were visiting the UK at the time.
We began the day with serving beverages and table snacks. This gave everybody the opportunity to meet others. The games and other entertainment such as karaoke then followed. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was then served along with more beverages.
After lunch the meeting began with a short prayer. The meeting discussed future potential projects. This was followed by announcing the new committee for Chijgamvasi UK who is now headed by Haribhai C Patel. The raffle draw followed the meeting.
